Re: I had no idea the water consumption ratios were the way they are. Don't tell folks in Santa Barbara

The ignorance of urban water users is quite remarkable. Since they don't really dig deeply into resource allocations throughout the economy, they can be easily bamboozled and manipulated by the military and corporate greedsters. There is a basic strain of meanness in the American spirit that can be manipulated quite easily. Thus, you have the small minded right wingers trying to curtail social welfare and foreign aid programs, and blindly supporting military incursions and ever increasing unfair subsidies of the rich, leading to resentments across the globe. What these small minded right wingers really would like in their heart of hearts is security and self-reliance. But perversely, they oppose the very things that could make this possible, while voting for the worst possible policies that simple create the next cycle of terror and fear. It's a remarkably unthinking stance, and one that those who can manipulate it for profit gleefully abuse.
