Chaz, looking a year or two in the future, a great deal depends on the innovations under development now. Given the way QUALCOMM operates, I would NOT expect them to curtail their seed money for new projects that look promising.

<Looking ahead, the practical problem that Qualcomm may well have is that so much cash flow will be available (a year or two in the future) that some use beyond internal R&D and strategic investments in CDMA around the world will be called for. Any ideas on that?>

Chaz, Globalstar negotiations continue. QUALCOMM can invest $2 billion in Globalstar.

That will give them:

New handsets, radioOne-based, upgraded to 1xRTT, gateways around the world, marketing budgets, data devices, OmniTRACS services and a new constellation to provide total global coverage.

They could include a terrestrial network if they want to, but that would cost a LOT of money. I expect it would be better to make multimode, multiband Globalstar phones so people could get terrestrial service from whoever they want and Globalstar service if it's cheaper or a terrestrial link is unavailable.

There are huge opportunities available in building the wireless world. Globalstar is the biggest and best one that QUALCOMM has.

Most people don't understand the Globalstar market demand when the technology is improved and the prices are cut. Most people have given up on satellite phone services as a good investment.

I think Loral, other creditors and QUALCOMM must be haggling over shares of the new company, hence the delays.
