Maybe Bush & Co. are all pure as saints, with no such "wag the dog" thoughts as some suggest.

In the alternative, however, in a nation requiring increasing levels of violence to be distracted, what incidents might be in the offing in the next few weeks, if their house of cards starts to collapse?

There is certainly a lot to choose from if you want to scare the crap out of the public, and make them forget about investigating you -- biowar, chemical, or maybe something like this:

story.news.yahoo.com

"...the nuclear neighbors are on the brink of another war over the Himalayan region of Kashmir ...The United States and other allies are worried war could be imminent. "

Since the US forces have been said by pundits to be able to act to restrain Paki nukes, and India is an ally, it is in the power of the US executive branch to affect whether this conflict escalates to nuclear.

Trust, but verify, said Reagan.
We should verify our trust in this administration and its minions.
