Dennis,

I agree with you completely that the government is culpable as an enabling agent for the criminal activities of the likes of Enron. We have a government that is moving in the direction of plutocracy. And it is something that all caring Americans, be they Republicans, Democrats or Indies need to really begin to pay a lot more attention to.

The problems with our government have recently been written about in an important book called "Wealth and Democracy" by Kevin Phillips. Here's an interview and book review concerning Mr. Phillips:

I think we may have some points of agreement on Mr. Phillips views. I'm complelely in agree with him as to how awful our politics have become.

That said, I still am a total fan of a mixed economy. I see that it is inevitable that markets that are made "free" ineveitably lead to criminal behavior by the likes of Lay, Skilling et al. We can't change human nature, but we can legislate some control over the monsters among us.
