I was in law school when The Wall fell and one of my professor had been in Berlin at the time. He came back with great tales of the days surrounding the event, and after the lecture we all shared some very good chocolate he had purchased in the new Germany. That was one of my best memories from those years; his account made us feel we were there too.

The optimism of those days was profound, but I too see how more dangerous the world became with the ole USSR gone. Such a perverse example of the theory of unintended consequences. From the Balkans to the current funfest aka ME, the old Cold War delineations sure made things more "static".

The world is a MUCH more dangerous place than it was just 13 years ago.
