Stock options can be bought and sold and even leaps go out no more than 2 1/2 years. Company options cannot be transferred and thus have zero market value. The value to the individual is only potential in that it cannot be realized until the stock price exceeds the strike. The company stock options may expire much more than 2 years out. The Strike is often much greater than the price at issue. Under these conditions it seems to me that Black Scholes may break down. Just a WAG though -- more of a mathmatician than a finance person.
