Do not forget to disable your background virus scanner. This can be causing your problem too.

Cow

Thanks for the help.
I knew I had Office on the start-up but one of the reasons I bought this computer a couple of years ago (at the time the T600 with 256mgr and 27GHd was about the most you could buy for home users) was because I felt it could run as many programs as I wanted and I wouldn't have to worry about things like that. I did what you suggest and although I couldn't find "Fast Find" I went ahead an took office out of the start up menu and also took off my desk top screen saver. I haven't used the computer enough to know if that has helped yet or not. I did do a scan disk and a defrag after doing what you suggested, although the defrag did stop and start about 4 times it was much much faster than before and it appeared to be a normal speed.

Like I said I haven't used my computer enough yet to know if all this worked or not so we will see.
I do know for the past couple of weeks my computer has been crashing a lot. When it crashes I get a message saying Windows has an error or something like that and Windows is going to have to shut down all windows (something like that can't remember the exact words).

I hope this works thanks for the help.
Man,I wonder how much money this thread has saved people? Personally, I know it has saved me hundreds, not to mention a little knowledge and piece of mind.

This post was just cited on the other thread. It seems very useful. Could someone post how to get to the Office Fast find feature and disable it in XP?

thanks.
