Hi Climber, I agree with you that a strong point for democracy is the chance the people have to change the law and correct the wrong. I believe this democratic principle is in the Quran too. One of the verses says that "God has decreed that your affairs should be decided through consultation with each other". This verse is the basis for many intellectuals crying for the true application of democracy in the so called "Islamic" states.
If sharia's law is not open to change or amendment in an Islamic country, I believe it is due to that country not applying the spirit of Islam, rather than it is Islam that is against a change or adaptation of the law.
