Mucho - what's really ironic is that all the options crap really affects shareholders who don't know what's up, and yet shareholders are defending the practice.

I, as a selfish individual, would actually look forward to implementing something like what John Shannon suggests. Many of the best run companies would likely plummet in shareprice and I would get an opportunity to buy them cheap. Then when people figured out that it really wasn't as bad as that I'd have the opportunity to make a killing.

But as a member of society I think this is taking steps away from transparency and thus is bad for capitalism and society.
