I think Bush did as much as could be asked under current rules and what he was told. OBL should have been quashed right after the Cole bombing. That's water under the bridge though.

Water under the bridge??? You want to see water under the bridge? This is neat-

Mr. Palau, exactly my sentiments and could not have been said better. You are exactly right on with that one.

Let's just say for the sake of argument credible information had made it to the top indicating a terrorist plot was in the works and Bush took action.

Scenario 1.
Bush takes the information seriously and brings into custody all Arab students training to be pilots.

Response from Dashle and Gephard:
"You're a bigot, a racist, and an intolerant right wing extremist. Arresting an entire group of people because of their national origin is disgusting. The arrests were obviously done for political purposes to gain Jewish supporters. That's not what America is all about!"

Scenario 2.
Bush grounds all commercial aviation flights until the threat is clear.

Response from Dashle and Gephard:
"Mr. Bush is crippling the economy and the airline industry with these outrageously paranoid terrorists claims. If the economy takes a nose dive, we can blame it all on the Bushies. Don't expect us to help the airline industry recover their losses with legislation because of some paranoid action taken by the President".

Scenario 3.
Bush closes off the borders and clamps down on illegal aliens entering the United States by using the military.

Response from Dashle and Gephard:
Virtually the same as scenario number one. "Bush is a racist and a radical right wing extremist. He's creating a police like state in order to appease the radical right wing Pat Buchannan elements of his party."

Scenario 4.
Bush alerts the public of the threat using all emergency SEC channels.

Response from Dashle and Gephard:
"Bush is a paranoid President not up to the challenges of our nation. He's using the emergency airwaves as a political stunt to take Presidential like war power in an effort to gain support for his agenda. It's a disgusting abuse of power. An investigation is in order."

Not only would these have been the likely Democrat responses. But the chorus would have been echoed over and over in the Big media, and by Democrats who despise Bush on this thread.
