I think the semi equip sector will generally all move up or down together.

It depends on if/when the (imho) semiconductor fab consolidation occurs and how that will effect "sentiment". I use that world carefully because there is some suspicion that some of these stock prices are manipulated.

Just like the Monty Python dead parrot sketch. "The only reason the stock is at $60 is because it's been nailed there" -g-

KLA Tencor is hiring though according to this link

If some semiconductor fabs go belly up soon (and all the equipment is sold for the usual pennies on the dollar) I would expect the semi equips to revise downwards significantly.

What happens during a semi consolidation phase is that everyone will decide the weakest sectors of the business are not worth it and all jump out at the same time. When business revives, there will be acute shortages of some chips that no one makes anymore. This could put a serious brake on the whole sectors revival. There will be many technologies where it will be not worth the effort to transfer to 300mm. Those fabs at 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, will be important too. Reduction in capacity should be across all technologies (from prior experience) just keeping the hi tech stuff is not a good idea. There is a fat zero chance of the sensible path being followed imho.

I agree with Early. People being put out of work (many of these job losses are not in any official numbers, which are jiggered with anyway) and real stoopid things like trade tariffs being put up is just oh so May 1930 imho.
