Um, I don't think I agree. If there appears to be a consolidation, it is cheaper servers replacing more expensive ones. Reliance on centralized, high cost serving assets is on the decline; distributed, lower cost assets seem to be more prevalent. Follows the globalization trend, as well as the need to decentralize for disaster planning.

Sun can play into this trend by offering lower cost servers that can replicate data and computing power over larger geographic regions. Or, they can be pushed into niche high end, high cost vs IBM, which learned years ago that it ain't the iron, but the support behind the iron.

Their choice.
