WLAN, limited as it is, works best in relatively flat, unobstructed parts of the country. Here in the North West getting WLAN to pass through trees and hills and mountains is a bit more challenging than many regions. Links can be made using the tricks of the trade but getting to wide area coverage isn't possible in this area. Community access network groups, like Seattle Wireless, have been able to get several nodes up, but only a fraction of people can practically connect to them.
