Had Tenet the good sense to swallow his agency pride and ask the Justice Department's F.B.I. for its data, a memo written by Phoenix agent Kenneth Williams would quickly have been flushed out. Safire's attacking Tenet because Safire is in with Woolsey, who wants back in. Everything you are going to read about this is going to be spin. Normal people understand that regardless of whether it was Clinton or Bush who received the warnings, they were too vague to do anything about. Just like the damned warnings we are getting every day. Something is gonna happen, be careful. Gee thanks. You gotta know the players. It's an election year, and Bush is riding high. At stake is the Senate, and down the road, the next Presidential election.
