hi dennis project NOT done. i'm not able to share files and printers. i think i deleted Client for Microsoft Networks. i mean deleted, not just uninstalled. right now i have two pc's sharing one cable modem connection via a linksys router. that much is sweet. but i'm struggling with the other stuff, all the while thinking that between win2000 and winxp, this ought to be pretty darn simple. but sometimes for me progress comes in small steps. :) mark
