Where did you learn to use numbers like that?

NTAP's total revenues come from its NAS hardware, Caching hardware and software (NAS and Caching). EMC and NTAP compete in NAS hardware and NAS software ONLY.

Get it?

The market share numbers from IDC and Gartner are based on NAS hardware ONLY for the calendar year.

Get it?

EMC uses the calendar year as its fiscal year while NTAP's fiscal year ends in April.

Get it?

In 1999, NTAP had more than 60% of the NAS market to EMC's 27%. In 2001, NTAP only had 35% of the NAS market while EMC captured 49%.

27% to 49% is a gain in market share while 60% to 35% is a loss in market share.

Get it?

Why make it more difficult that it has to be?
