8:40AM: The futures are pointing to a higher open, looking to put a dent in yesterday's sell-off. They have gained some momentum over the last 20 minutes...The NY Atty General has reached a settlement agreement with Merrill Lynch which could be a positive for the market, or at least the brokers....It's relatively quiet in the pre-market, but retailers should be of interest today. Home Depot (HD 48.50) beat consensus by $0.03. Other retailers beating expectations: BLI, BJ, SPLS...Ford Motor (F 16.73) is being upgraded and added to the Focus 1 list at Merrill Lynch.... Nothing on the economic calendar today...Overseas, European markets were a bit higher while Asian markets were mostly weaker. Current indications: S&P 500 futures are +3.90, or 4.9 pts above fair value. Nasdaq 100 is +12.0, or 16 pts above fair value. Nas 100 PMI +6.64
