Having lived in those areas, I can vouch that the hatred for the USA sources from the prosperity that we witness in the US. The display of opulence at the US Embassies and Consulates also plays a big role in portraying the US as a "extremely rich" country.

Now you have the poor masses who are fed up with their politicians and their political system which breeds corruption. And here comes an extremist Mullah, who sees an opportunity to seize power by taking advantage of their economic discontent. They start to play one the religious beliefs of these poor folks, incite them to violence to right a "economic wrong" (so far they are the same as what the Communists did). Now comes the kicker. They promise them heaven if they died doing so.

Whereas Prophet Mohammed told his followers to defend their religious beliefs and to rise up in arms if they were being prosecuted because of their religious beliefs, the Mullahs send out a call to rise up in arms to achieve "economic parity" It is important to note that these same Mullahs have overthrown the Monarchies (since they are rich folks). EXAMPLE: Iran. They are against the Saudi and the Morroccon monarchies. The Jordanian monarchy is not that rich compared to the previous two. And all the monarchies I mentioned are Muslim monarchies. So the Mullahs are raising a war cry in the name of religion, but they are playing on the economic needs of the people.
