No offense...

But that movie is the WORST movie I have ever seen. All the actors suck (including Stalone).

And Believe me it IS NOT like that AT ALL.

When I saw it (it took me about 5 minutes to realize how bad it was --NO WONDER why ole Bernie [Ecclestone-- Mr. Formula ONE] refused to do this movie using Formula One (instead they used the CART championship

The best movie ever made about that subject was "Grand Prix" back in the 1966 with John Frankenheimer

Even then... the story line stunk... (like a soap opera) but many of the actual scenes were filmed with the aide of many Formula One drivers, and actual Grand Prix footage of real races were well blended in (if I remember well, there is a scene of the Belgian Grand Prix at SPA Francochamps where Jackie Stewart had a fairly nasty accident in the rain.

They used a cannon to catapult Yves Montand's car (I forget the name of the character he played) where he gets killed in the final race in Monza using the "curva parabolica" as stage.... similar to this (this is the curva Sud in the same "Autodromo Monza"

Another movie along the same lines (and certainly a lot better than Driven) is Le Mans (1971) with Steve McQueen (who was a real racer of motorcycles). He actually used the BIG Porsche 917 (long tailed) which he drove in Sebring prior to the Le Mans event.

Rumor has it that McQueen drove those fantastic Porsches competitively during the Sebring filming and while impressed many profesional drivers... the insurers were not so impressed and for filming during the Le Mans event they would not allow McQueen near the 917's and in stead he had to drive the 908's (earlier and slower models).

The 917's were legendary, this car together with the McLarens and the Chaparrals of Jim Hall in the CAN-AM (group 7) series were pure raw power. they were the last of a class (soon after the size and power of the motors of the Sports Endurance cars were downsized again)

Pedro Rodriguez, Jo Siffert, Brian Redman, Derek Bell, Vic Elford, Leo Kinunen and many others drove those 917 Porsches (and some 908) to beat the Ferrari P-512's of Jackie Ickx and Arturo Merzario in the World Sports Championship back in 1969/70/71.They actually pumelled Ferrari and any other team that raced against them. So what happened was that many teams used the 917's to compete... but the factory team (Gulf-Porsche) driven by Rodriguez/Kinunen and Bell/Oliver were the most dominant of the lot.

You can see (side by side) the two Porsche 917 # 8 and the Ferrari P-512 # 1 entering the Paraboloica here...

Isn't this a beauty.... (this is the Martini-Racing sponsored 917)

Re-fueling Rodriguez's 917 in Argenina, look at the canister... what a difference from today's standards where all mechanics use the nomex suits AND helmets.
