<<12:41 ET FBI comments on potential for FBI suicide bombers : CNN reports that the FBI considers walk-in suicide bombers "inevitable" in the United States.>>

Tim: That's not surprising...Did you read the 3-part DEBKA report on Terrorism I posted yesterday..? I don't think The Clinton or The Bush Administrations have taken the terrorism threat seriously enough -- the evidence is starting to come out now. Why didn't Clinton & Co. really go after Bin Laden when Sudan was ready to give him to us...? We've known he was a big threat for years but all we did was trail him and then launch a few cruise missels into the mountains of Afghanistan....Pre-9/11 the Bush folks clearly did not take the terrorism warnings as seriously as they should have (even Rumsfeld was not in favor of additional funding for anti-terrorism efforts)...Why did the famous FBI Phoenix memo (from a highly regarded investigator) get lost in the shuffle...? Why don't our major investigation agencies regularly talk with each other and share info. in a seamless and effective way...? Hello, what's going on here...? IMO, its time for a lot of the management of the CIA, FBI and NSA to go...We may need to use the 'Nuetron Jack' (Welch that is) approach and really clean house inside these organizations...Why can't Bush hold the leaders of these beauracratic organizations MORE ACCOUNTABLE...? We spend tens of billions on intelligence and anti-terrorism efforts and a lot of it has not worked. IMO, we need some NEW THINKING at the top, new information systems, new cultures need to be developed. The security of our citizens is at stake. Al Quaeda is not fooling around and I fear our government is not changing in an effective way to deal with the emerging threats that we now know that we face. The FBI officer who was actually starting to put the dots together and wrote the Phoenix memo clearly could think outside the box and anticipate in a holistic way. He is the visionary type of individual who should be promoted and be in a top position (maybe put him in charge an inter-agency task force to synthesize info. from global sources and anticipate threats). The leadership MUST come from the top down. Bush needs to motivate Ashcroft, Rice, Tenet, Mueller, Rumsfeld and other key players to take action and make some revolutionary changes in the way The U.S. gathers, analyzes, shares and acts on intelligence info.

Just my Monday afternoon view from the porch.

-Scott
