I'm not sure most consumers even use PCs for WP.
Most consumers, I'd think, are gaming/photoshopping/video interested.
I use mine for a mix of gaming, education and work. But why would my neighbor (who barely knows how to use a PC) need a 2G P4? I don't know, but it's what he wanted and what he got. All he is doing is downloading MP3's, burning CDs and looking at porn (I think, LOL). Don't need that much power to facilitate these.
As I said, I think most people are beginning to look at their PCs much the same way they view their cars.
Why do so many people have SUVs when a smaller wagon-style car would suffice? Hell, I love the new Cooper Mini (always have and I'm getting one as my mid-life crisis car...odd choice, I know), and that's really all you need in suburban travel.
But people DON'T look at what they need as the sole measure of what to purchase.

LOL! True Charles... I remember paying nearly $10K for a machine that would not be able to load Windows today. If it were given to a kid they would trash it as it would not have enough memory to play a game,,, and it was not very long ago either,,,LOL. The recent price war and cheap DRAM saw many upgrade to processors of 1G or MORE and up to 80 gig HDs. LOL! I know I did--- P4 is nice but not needed for a couple more years maybe,,, and how long to fill even 20 gig? BUT it was relatively inexpensive--- I got a MicronPC... Now 3 boxes are networked in my office and one on another floor,,, there really is a need,,,,,, NOT!
