TCMAY Re...However, CDC faced little competition from either IBM or Univac in those days. IBM had ceded the scientific market to CDC and Univac was essentially nowwhere to be seen. (The Burroughs B5000 was a more worthy competitor.)< Nonetheless, Seymor was a great mind who took on the world and won for a time. AFAIK even the Japanese couldn't beat him at his prime. And I believe it was the lowly massively parallel computers which eventually made Crays costly. True, some new technology will eventually do Dirk in, but until then, right now he would be considered a good bet.
