Well that is interesting. Patrol is a midrange systems monitoring and automation tool. In the implementation I am familiar with, it was used to bring together a large enterprise's midrange(Sun, HP, AS400, etc) systems so they could be centrally monitored. I guess conceptually this is similar to what a SAN does from the storage side.

Edit: It is a rather loose analogy, as I understand you cannot share processing via Patrol the way a SAN is designed to share storage amongst systems.

Thanks. Interesting article. This is EMC's attempt to find some other ground to stand on, some other turf to own. And, the article is right, most attempts like this, fail. Mostly, companies are good (if they're good at anything) at what they've done before, what they've grown up doing.
