Very good maxim. Also applies to politicians. It's not exactly unheard of for them to parse their words extremely carefully... to attempt to shape the outcome their desire.

Sometimes "the Whole Truth" is less important to them than the "Spin".

Right, blasting an airliner out of the sky due to a "normal" hijacking would be a vast over reaction.
