Re:guns in cockpits - that's an odd question. I've got a bro' in law who flies for Delta, who usta fly all kinds of hairy things including SR-71, and his wife tells me, "no, they've got more important things to worry about". I don't think so. But there may be another issue at stake: maybe they're afraid of a nutcake captain. But that's already a danger we've seen, and it's better to have a 50/50 chance of shooting a wacko Egyption suicide airline pilot, instead of fighting him for the stick.
