BTW: all of the other problems I had have been solved.

The scan disk works fine, defrag does perfect.
One problem I had that is hard to explain in words is my computer kept making a loud noise all day like it was running a program or something...kinda like a grinding/scratching sound.
I followed the advice of the posters on this thread and all of those problems are fixed.

The only problem I have now is windows appears to crash about 3 or 4 times a day...all this does is close out the explorer windows I have running. Its not really that big of a deal as all I have to do is simply reload the pages...I don't even have to reboot. I may just live with this problem unless it gets worse.

I think one of the best things I did was clean out my start up menu...this of course freed up a lot of space in my resource menu. I firmly believe one of the files that helped the most was my "cookies". You would not believe how many cookie files I had....the guy at Dell couldn't believe it either. I simply deleted all of those files and I think that cleared up a heck of a lot of resource space for me to run. Of course you lose all your passwords but its easy enough to have those written down or have the site you are visiting send you the password.

When you reinstall Windows from the install disk, what actually happens is it recovered corrupted system files. The reinstall leaves everything else intact, including applications and system registery. Allot of problems can be cured by repairing the system registery. This may avoid a needless reinstall of Windows. If Windows does need to be reinstalled, after the reinstall, you may have to reapply any upgrades you have made earlier
