Goldman/Gartner tech spending survey reveals caution By Julie Rannazzisi The results of a Gartner/Goldman Sachs IT spending confidence survey revealed caution and tight budgets among companies. The survey, conducted in early May, showed that technology budgets would remain flat throughout the remainder of 2002. Despite the weak sentiment unveiled by the survey, Gartner analysts expect fourth-quarter capital spending activities to rise and total tech spending to increase 1.5 percent in 2002. Eighty-nine percent of those surveyed anticipated a modest recovery in the world economy by the end of the year, though they also said it would not influence their spending intentions for the balance of 2002. Vendors in the security, storage, Internet project initiatives and other Web-based applications areas are the likeliest to attract most of the preset technology spending in 2002, the survey determined.
