FRANKFURT, May 22 (Reuters) - German Deputy Finance Minister Caio Koch-Weser said on Wednesday a rise in the euro should be gradual so as not to disturb the German economy.

"Adjustments (in foreign exchange rates) that are too rapid are never good," Koch-Weser told financial journalists on Tuesday in remarks embargoed for Wednesday.

Koch-Weser also said a recovery in Germany would be primarily led by exports, and therefore hinged on the global recovery and the euro's exchange rate.

He did not want to comment on the appropriate level for the euro versus the dollar.
