It's more like "whatever it takes to stay in power". Clinton abondoned many of his liberal bases principals in order to get things done that "worked", ie, welfare reform, fiscal discipline etc. Reps are abanding conservative priciples, backing of minimun wage, $83B farm bill.

The 2 parties are both pandering.
