I haven't heard a convincing reason to try everyone in secret, and withhold names.

It only provides fodder to conspiracy buffs...

To avoid that, disclosing who, what, and when these attempts or plans were made would finger people and situations.

This starts sounding like the drug operations that keep double agents involved and want to protect their identities, except that using aliases does that already.
