Milo, you're missing the point...

Sure, AMD has a lot of nice sounding press releases surrounding the K8, but in order to sell a processor, you have to be able to produce and validate the processor.

AMD's 0.13 micron bulk process is the unmitigated disaster as predicted here months ago. As indicated then, AMD has to move to SOI not to be a "technology leader", but simply to keep up in terms of processor frequency. SOI is completely unproven in high-volume manufacturing and represents a huge risk on their part. Once out and up to the promised speed, I have no doubts that the K8 will be a very competitive chip. I simply have concerns as to AMD's ability to get the chip out at competitive frequency with competitive yield.
