Ted, <how much you want to bet that if the Palestinians had their own country and a chance to get a head that the Hamas would go away real fast?>

A good chunk of money. If peace in the Middle East is that easy to achieve, I'd be more than happy to pay up and admit I was wrong.

Ten, if you think creating a Palestinian state is easy, you need to read the Library of Congress's version of the region's history. I think walking on water, to use a biblical reference, would be easier.

Like I said before, I'm all for Palestinian independence. I just don't think that's going to make Hamas go away, but neither is what Sharon is doing right now. And the third alternative, the extreme right-wing solution, would mean WWIII.

<No, I don't believe it.>

It might be easier to believe when you realize that the terrorists aren't being rational or reasonable in their methods and their doctrine. Fanatics don't burden themselves with such "weakness."

I think its a mistake to think the terrorists are irrational. And its not their lack of concern over weakness we have to worry about, but rather their willingness to do whatever it takes, including suicide bombings, to make it happen. I think their willingness to use horrific acts to reach their goals is caused by their heightened sense of frustration/desperation because they are no closer to their goals than they were 60 years. I think you and I would agree that their ends do not justify the means they are using but they don't see it that way........and that's the dilemma.
