I wonder how these rumors get started at the first place.

No reports on that, he will be soon, a lot of activity going on on our western frontier in the north western frontier, Pakistan believes that his capture will derail Indian efforts to impose war and may further enhance Pakistan commitment to root terror, moreover militants on Pakistani side will than be pursued even with bigger resolve, it is for 'Mush' either him or them already. Abu Zubayda capture by CIA-FBI and Pakistani police and intelligence in Faislabad and Lahore has laid the ground work and it is only matter of time. Unlike Bosnia where many declared obscanders like Karadzic have escaped from arrest this guy has a huge price and nearly eveyone looking for him, I don't think he will be free far too long. He will be the first victim of this decisive war before it starts, after it starts the situation will be out of control. Before he becomes a 'new jihadi' on LOC India-Pak front in Kashmir it would be good to capture him..
