Nonetheless, he has sold a lot of shares (rightly or wrongly), but my question is why do we continue to support such dilutive stock compensation on top of what I would say is a decent salary?

I agree with everything you said, except that when I checked the proxy a couple of days ago when this came up, it said his annual salary had been reduced to $1. But he has enough shares already; they should just pay him $1 million and only hand out options to VPs. This is the main reason I'm staying away from SEBL.

Siebel Systems CEO Says Tech Spending Remains Soft

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Tom Siebel, the chairman and chief executive of Siebel Systems Inc. (SEBL), said Wednesday that corporate spending on information technology remains depressed.

"As much as I'd like to announce happy days are here again, I don't see it right now," Siebel told attendees of a conference hosted by Salomon Smith Barney.

There was an expansion in IT spending in the fourth quarter of 2001 after three quarters of "dramatic contraction," Siebel said. But IT spending was "flat to down" in the first quarter and "right now it's very sticky," he added....

why does he continue to give parts of it away to himself at our expense?

Because he wants to be richer than Larry Ellison.
