rudedog is the Kunte Kintey on this stuff, but it does seem that this article sumarizes the issues as to who will take the turf in the middle ground processors.

It could almost be argued that hpq will concede some of the low ground to the Dell Imperial PC Stormtroopers, at least for now,

But IF the middleware is not a commodity, then the CPQ (sic!) argument is that you need us because Dell does NOT have an in house support strategy, and that the customer will stub his toe in the areas of multiprocessing and integration, not to mention software, at least for now.

My guess is that this is a 50 Billion dollar a year market alone, with ties to storage (up) and desktops (down).
