After sending a blunt warning to Pakistan, Indian Prime Minister, Atal Behari, Vajpayee was on Thursday to go into a huddle with top Kashmiri security officials to plot their next steps in fighting separatists.

The meeting of the Unified Headquarters (UHQ),a body grouping Kashmiri and national security chiefs and state officials to devise counter-insurgency strategy, was to be held in held Srinagar on Thursday.

The meeting, the first ever to be chaired by the prime minister, will discuss security in the strife-torn state in view of increased activities by separatist militants, a government official said.

Indian Home Minister L.K. Advani, Defence Minister George Fernandes and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah are all set to attend the pow-wow.

The UHQ meeting is held against a backdrop of rising tensions with Pakistan over a May 14 attack by militants on a passenger bus and an army cantonment in Jammu that left 35 dead in the winter capital.
