OT, RE: LBJ

I am rather fascinated by the diversity of opinions about LBJ. I made a remark very similar to yours on another bulletin board (i.e. "the worst president we've ever had") and was very surprised that most everyone did NOT share my opinion.

Most interesting is that all of LBJ's supporters used the Great Society as their reason why he was a good president.

To me, that viewpoint is rather short sighted. Suspend any qualitative belief about the Great Society and for argument's sake, let's assume it was a great positive. I still say that it doesn't overshadow all of the other lies and scummy activities. In that manner, I see LBJ as being very similar to Nixon. Both major league horse-like mammals, and both men enabled numerous pieces of absolutely horrid legislation to be enacted. And yet they are both looked upon favorably by members of their political party for only one thing--for Nixon, it was China. For LBJ, the Great Society. From my perspective, they both stunk as presidents.
