I, for one, believe India has sufficient provocation to invade Pakistan and root out the terrorists if Pakistan won't do it. I have no opinion about Kashmir. I don't think it's right for India to use terrorism as a pretext to force a solution to the Kashmir problem.

It is another bad mess.

Another case of religion being used as an excuse for power-grabbing.

And the Muslim invaders named India "Hindustan", a name which is actively used in India. For example, a major newspaper in New Delhi is the "the Hindustan Times." Although the Hindi version for "India" is "Bharat". For example, the Prime Minister of India belongs to a party called the Bhartiya (Indian) Janata (People)Party.

>India, not surprisingly, is no more enthusiastic about terrorist attacks against Indian families than Americans enjoyed the WTC viewing. >

Especially after the Kargil war in 1999, India's first war with a ball-by-ball (for those who know the fascination of India with the game of cricket!) commentary on TV. The 1990s have seen a widespread use of communication technologies by the Indian masses including TV, Cable, and the telephone, and the internet. Somehow all the technologies hit the country at the same time.

Mq,

Only the other day did I learn what Hindu Kush means; "Hindu Killer".

I thought you were dozing in class that day...

The Wakhan Corrider was part of the Great Silk Highway. It fell into disuse once ocean-going routes were discovered.

The Pamir Knot is the intersection of five massive mountain ranges. The range running to the southwest toward Kabul and and further into the heart of Afghanistan is called the Hundu Kush.

From Lonely Planet: The mighty Hindu Kush (Killer of Hindus) mountain range, the western extremity of the Himalaya, runs across the country from east to west. The average elevation of this mountainous interior is a lofty 2700m (8856 ft) and the highest peaks reach 7500m (24,600ft) in the northeast. From here rise the major rivers of Afghanistan. The Kabul river flows east into the Indus while most others such as the Helmand, Farah and Harirud disappear into the desert sands.
