We've got to take several steps all at once, imo. Including the "unaccountability" issue A couple trillion dollars goes in to Washington DC annually, and several hundred billion in secrets goes flooding around the world, causing mayhem and "blowback". Since 1950, our gov't and military has been having a field day with American taxpayer loot. The Pentagon was originally designed to be demilitarized, as the US has done in prior wars. But, no, now we have spent $8 trillion and counting, on worldwide escapades, all of which need accountability. What are we getting for that $8 trillion? The answer from the self-interested: You got Protection ! From Russians! Commies ! Columbians ! Now it's time to sharpen our pencils and examine carefully what kind of protection we really got, and are (not) getting for these trillions. Or, if it's really been a full-employment act for politicians, military and spooks.
