It's pretty standard now in most of the cases...they pre-bleed the defendant's assets and accounts. Makes it much harder to get top representation. Federal litigation is financially excrutiating.

When I was clerking in OH at a well known, but very small outfit, we spent eleven months on a 50 million dollar HUD fraud suit. The attorney billed me out at over 100,000 for the whole case...and I was just a research grunt. I can't imagine the crap they will bury his counsel in for a high profile case like this.
