The program is not responding to the operating system that is telling it to shut down. Either it is in the middle of some large data transfer, from the network or the disk drive, or on newer versions of IE, this can happen when IE is looking for a web page that you are having it find. It is best to wait for the operation to complete. But sometimes there is still a problem. That is when you need to abort the program using some form of Ctrl-Alt-Del, or bring up a task manager that allows you to kill processes. If this is a consistent problem, there may be another cause to the problem that needs to be addressed. Bob Graham
