I think there is a lot of 'it's just politics, what do you expect?'. People expect the game to be dirty.

But I also believe that mainstream American media is fairly decrepid these days...

Perhaps it's the rush to 'Infotainment', or maybe the increasing concentration of media power in a few corporate hands has something to do with it (no upside in rocking the boat if that threatens the corporate bottom line...)

All told, the media seems fairly brain-dead these days... chasing scandals and 'Hollywood' news rather than 'hard' news.

If it weren't for the Net allowing easy access to foreign news sources (who, presumably, have a more disinterested take on our events) than a lot of stories would never see the light of day... and the public's right-to-know wouldn't be served.

JDN,

Re: I live in Fla. and have to go to the British Press to learn of all this??

The best coverage I've seen of the Florida election rigging is the work of Greg Palast, who has been working for BBC Newnight and the Guardian. He does happen to be a Yank, growing up in Chicago.

This is probably a repeat for you:

The rest of the file makes for interesting reading as well:

This one is sourced through an American magazine, Harper's:

The yellow trash sheets you refer to in Britain are owned by the same scoundrel as owns many of them here, Rupert Murdock. You'll see his propaganda on Fox News and the New York Post, for instance. Though the banner headline in the Post last week: BUSH KNEW does seem to have a ring of truth about it.

Cheerio!
