I worked with a few Iranian students at the UW when I was in school pre and at the time of the revolution. As usual there was plenty of warning and info out about our misguided support for the guy. It occurs to me that most people don't realize that in reality Iran has the most progressive and "western" population of all the Arab states. IMO engagement is the way to bring these underlying "true" opinions out of the population, not isolation. bwtfdik, my anecdotes are a few students.
