I don't think Hammer depends nearly as much on commitment of third parties as Itanium. On the hardware level, AMD already has all the commitment it needs, and on the software level, which IMO is a tougher challenge, even a complete failure of Hammer specific software support could still leave Hammer CPU a winner, based on x86-32 compatibility, while lack of Itanium specific support would kill Itanium.
