The 1950's were NOTED for conformity and lack of citizen involvement in politics. "The Organization Man". "The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit". "Growing Up Absurd". All from that decade.

The '30s and '40's weren't a whole lot better in spite of no lack of rabble rousers in the '30s. FDR was President for 15 of those 20 years. The great majority of people had no idea that their President was a cripple. Or that at Malta he was so sick as to be nonfunctional.

That milk carton thing? That wasn't done in the '30's, 40's, 50's, or 60's. Try 70's.

Those Good Old Days never existed.

Personally, I have no problem at all with a certain amount of intelligently managed racial profiling. There is no doubt that Arab males at this point in time must be generically considered suspects. I have no problem with their being treated as suspects. If we start declaring, though, that Arab males are by definition guilty and are not entitled even to the rights we normally grant suspects, we compromise our most basic principles and lose more than we gain. There's a huge difference between basing suspicion on a racial profile and basing an assumption of guilt on a racial profile.

It must also be pointed out that basing suspicion purely on a racial profile is rarely effective, simply because it yields an unmanageably large pool of suspects. To be practical, racial profiling has to be combined with additional sets of behaviour or affiliation that raise suspicion.

The key to unraveling the terrorist networks in the west - the main threat facing us - is not citizen involvement or military action. It is diligent, sustained, police and spy work, tracking down the cash and information flow, locating key suspects, placing them under surveillance, cracking their communications, etc.

I said a long time ago, after the terrorist attacks, that once the key individuals in these organizations are identified, they should either be kidnapped and unofficially interrogated - using drugs if required - or simply killed. I still believe this. Once the network is uncovered, once the key individuals operating in the west are identified, the rules of war should apply, not the rules of police work. Police work remains, however, the only way to bring us to the point where we can use the dirty tricks effectively. When the enemy is among us, the sniper rifle is a more effective weapon than the cluster bomb.

CNN announces yet another show "Home Free" this will be the coup de grace.A place where these scum sucking pieces of dirt can get free legal services from some of the finest unAmerican ACLU attorneys, you're and my money can buy.

If we decide to treat people as suspects purely because of their racial profile we must understand that some of our suspects will be people who are completely innocent, and whose sole offense is that they were born with the wrong profile. Are these also "scum sucking pieces of dirt"? Are they not entitled to legal representation?

I must say that I think the excuse that the FBI did not act on reports of Arab males using flight schools in a suspect manner because they were afraid to be accused of racial profiling is pure bullshit. Cops use racial profiling all the time, so does the FBI. They catch some shit for it, but it's mostly just left whining. It's never deterred them from using profiling before, even in cases where the threat is much less severe. It's an excuse, pure and simple. They fucked up and they are trying to cover their butts.
