Dang! Convicted of atheism again! :-) As Henry Ford said, "History is bunk." What almost always gets left behind is what else he said in that same short speech. It was that history is a highly edited version of reality and that a great many things happen during any given period that get left out of the canonical version. That the people who write the mainstream version get to ignore things that they don't like or that they think their society won't like. Those who think there is some Golden Age back there that has been lost and that we need to return to need to get off that mainstream and read some of the versions that look at things the mainstream is uncomfortable with. I think they will find things are not quite what they appear. One single example: If morality has declined from some high standard in the past, then how did those experiments on black men with syphilis ever happen? What was the gov't doing experimenting with doses of radioisotopes on unknowing subjects? The Good Old Days weren't and these are The Good Old Days.
