The Germans were able to have a fairly effective army without transforming their society into one that was particularly peaceful.

By the way, WW2 aircraft fans (as well as Blue Oyster Cult fans, I suppose) will be happy to learn that Boeing engineers, with the assistance of the US military and the Messerschmitt company has allowed a private company to put the ME-262 back in production. $2 million each. No weapons or swastikas (on the first two). If you like old aircraft, this is will be a fun site for ya:
