It really IS a good idea to think about these things once in a while. How lucky you are to have your grandchildren and be young enough and energetic enough to enjoy them.

My mother died when the boys were just 10 and 12, and so never got to see how wonderfully they have turned out. I thought of her when you wrote about walking on the beach with your grandchildren. We took Mother to the Outer Banks with us every year. She loved the ocean, and would go on long explorations with the boys, "adventures" she called them, stopping and showing them the magic of all the small things around. I think that is what grandparents are for-- they have time to rediscover and share the magic that gets lost so easily when you are busy parenting!

I am off to clean out a cabinet and try to shed some material possessions! This is one activity I wish WERE for the last time.
I'll try to do it with some passionate enjoyment, though, in honor of the topic.
