if we haven't dropped dead from cancer or some other disease, we probably won't be able to scale hillsides and walk for hours

Because you are doing these things now, I think the odds are very good that you will actually be able to do them in later years.

Croc,

OH, you said so many great things that had me going- YEAH! YEAH! I am going to get back to you with my reactions later, after I empty the cabinet.
Lots of this for me is being triggered as Dan's parents move closer to us and face their final years.
I am glad Marie brought this up as it seems to be on a lot of us older ones' minds!
I have always found the expression "over the hill" fairly apt- and that ties in with your comment about awareness of the ticking...maybe the key is to look over the hill, and still move forward with enthusiasm and excitement, not growing frightened at the slope down, or the misty horizon.

But MUST go do some things- I still have on my nightgown.
Shameful.

<Kinda preachy sounding, aren't I? (o:</>

Not preachy at all, Croc. I enjoyed your thoughtful response. You obviously have a great philosophy of life and your feelings about our societies obsession with amassing wealth to have for our later years is so right on!

Enjoy your outdoors this weekend.
Marie
