Elmer,

The way I interpret Jim's comment is that AMD has a number of different process technologies from .18u Al, .18u Cu, .13u bulk, SOI, .13u for Austin, .09u etc.. These can either be refined further, or left alone, of the ones under the development, some get the A team, some get the B team etc.

The same with the CPU design and validation. The Appaloosa team was re-assigned to other tasks etc.

Joe

RE:"Shift what? Easy to wave your hands and spout marketing phrases like "shift the resources" but again I ask shift what specifically? Should you move the steppers and the etching equipment into the design validation lab? How about the PHds who are working on the new transistors? Should you move them to mask design or layout? Maybe the Product Engineers can help out running simulations because they don't have anything to produce anyway but aside from that it's naive to think you can move resources around like that."

Actually you seem to be dissing exactly what Intel did
When Intel slipped up they got a whole lot "smarter" in a hurry. They accelerated to .13u and moved Willy to Northwood...they then pushed the whole line to P4 knowing Mhz was the key.
AMD should have figured out Athlon was gonna run out of Mhz
a long time ago and concentrated more on Hammer rather have to resort to tips and tricks like SOI.

Pretty obvious that in order for AMD to keep up with Intel they have to step up the speed at which they introduce new product but it has to be the right product.

Elmer, Re: < Jim, this is a personal insult and in violation of the rules of this thread. Why not move over to the Intel thread and we can insult each other to our hearts content?>

Well said, sir.

Elmer,

Maybe it's a personal insult, but it was a witty sarcastic and I think you should have smile while reading it.
